La Femme (The Woman) is a celebration of the enduring strength, wisdom, and spiritual light embodied by Jewish women thriyghout generations.

This painting pertrays a Woman of Valor - a figure who carries the richness of the past while illuminating the path toward the future. Interwoven throughout the work are messages in three languages, French, Hebrew, and English, reflecting the universal nature of the theme: Knowledge, responsibility, faith

and hope.

Near her stands the light of the Shabbat candles, symbolizing the sacred tradition of welcoming peace, holiness, and renewal into the home. Beside her rests a cup of wine, always full, representing joy, abundance, gratitude, and the blessings that enrich our lives.

The French inscription La Femme est l’avenir—“The Woman is the Future”—speaks to the essential role of women as nurturers, teachers, leaders, and guardians of continuity. Another French word, Savoir (“Knowledge”), reflects the wisdom she carries: the accumulated learning, values, and experiences passed from one generation to the next.

Within the open book are teachings from Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers), timeless reminders of our shared responsibility to improve the world. One passage teaches:

“It is not incumbent upon you to complete the task, but neither are you free to desist from it.”

Another reminds us:

“The day is short, and the work is great.” Together, these teachings encourage perseverance, purpose, and commitment to acts of goodness, even when the journey is long and the work unfinished.

La Femme honors the woman who carries memory and tradition, who embraces learning and growth, and who inspires future generations through her light, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to making the world a better place.
